This
is a special program for the person who lost his eyesight after
the childhood stage

teaching the art of mobility to the blind and how to use the white
cane in addition to how to take care of himself, his personal
hygiene and freedom of movement in his own environment

Rehabilitation:
Rehabilitation
covers:
1* The
scientific and cultural rehabilitations:
a-
The computer - the LIB was the first Arabic institution
which opened to the blind the door towards the world of computers
especially designed for the blind. When the Braille software was
available, it was integrated into the rehabilitation program. The
founder Dr. Issa El- Maalouf was able - in 1988 - to Arabise the
Braille screen or the electronic line that allowed the blind to
use the computer in Arabic.
To
be noted that LIB received blind people from the Arab countries
who came to follow computer training programs.
b- The
talking library offers all types of books recorded on
audio cassettes.
c- The
printed library offers books printed in “Braille”.
d- Typing:
LIB trains the blind to type on the regular typewriter in Arabic
and foreign languages in addition to typing in “Braille”.
e-
Braille: LIB teaches the blind how to read and how to
write “Braille”.
f-
Languages: LIB has established programs to teach foreign
languages for the blind.
g-
Servicing the blind university students:
LIB
offers special services for the blind university students namely:

typing their books or recording them on audio tapes
*
providing them with transport between their houses and the
university according to their university schedules
*
providing a portable computer which can be lent to outstanding
students who make use of it in the lectures by saving the lectures
on the computer and then printing them out at their convenience.

Professional Rehabilitation:
Building
on the belief that “all the goodness is achieved by teaching a
blind how to fish instead of giving him a fish”, LIB taught the
blind who are not interested in academic education, a career which
can help them make a decent living.
The
careers taught were:

Production of chairs
b-
Bamboo manufacturing
c-
Automatic knitting
d-
Rope manufacturing
It
is worth noting that the handmade work undertaken by the LIB blind
is considered to be very precise and unique artisan work which is
truly considered the best in the market.
e-
LIB teaches how to play on musical instruments and has its own
special music band made out about thirty people. The incomes of
charity parties held by Lib music band contribute to cover some
LIB expences.
