LIB’s programs: care, rehabilitation and entertainment

  • Care:

The caring program includes:

1* Providing a specific program for each blind separately to enable him / her to get the proper care, education and rehabilitation.

2* Transport was and still is a basic need for the blind especially for the employees among them or for university students. The greatest challenge was to provide free transportation. To be noted that the number of blind people profiting from the transport service reached in the spring of 1998, 140 blind; of them 79 requiring daily transport. Nowadays and due to the economic difficulties, LIB was obliged to reduce this service quite well.

3* Residence:
After the increase in the demand for residency, LIB inaugurated a boarding division, which is receiving since 1997 the young people from the different regions of the country in addition to the blind people from the Arab countries who visit the institution to assist in its rehabilitation programs.
It is worth pointing out that the boarding division is in need for a special division for women.

4* Taking care of the Seniors:
LIB provides the seniors the financial support and food rations in addition to regular visits to check on their needs.

5* Medical care:
This service covers the contacts with the medical body like doctors, pharmacists and hospitals in order to alleviate or to cancel the hospitalisation expenses.
The service also covers contacting the concerned authorities to provide government medical coverage for the blind to ensure free hospitalisation.
LIB was covering, up till 1995, the medical and hospitalisation expenses and the cost of medicines for the blind and for their dependants (wife & children).
LIB has also assumed the full expenses of medical operations such as operating the eye cornea which helped many blinds to regain their sight.

6* Psychological Care:
This service takes care of organising meetings and awareness seminars in order to pre-empt psychological problems. Moreover contacts with the specialists in the psychological field are organised to provide remedies for the psychological problems encountered.
